Principal Systems Performance Engineer – Modeling
Micron Technology · Longmont, United States
About this role
Our vision is to transform how the world uses information to enrich life for all. Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever. The Data Center Workload Engineering (DCWE) team sits at the intersection of real-world data and future innovation
We translate how modern data centers actually run into insights that shape next-generation memory and storage products. If you enjoy solving complex systems problems and learning from real customer environments, this is a team where your curiosity and perspective will make a visible impact. This role is a hands-on systems architect position focused on building forward-looking models that guide Micron’s SSD strategy
You will use real workload data and deep system knowledge to simulate tradeoffs across large-scale cloud environments and influence product direction. The work is high-impact, highly visible, and ideal for someone who understands hyperscale infrastructure and wants to shape what comes next. Responsibilities: Design and evolve a data center-scale logical model to evaluate future SSD product scenarios Integrate workload data, telemetry, and benchmarks into performance, power, and cost models Model hyperscaler tradeoffs across compute, memory, storage, and interconnect to inform product strategy Analyze AI infrastructure components including GPUs, DDR5, HBM, CXL, and NVMe storage systems Present insights and recommendations to senior leadership and partner cross-functionally across architecture and engineering Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 10+ years of experience Experience working in hyperscale data centers or large cloud environments with understanding of infrastructure at scale Strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, or similar for building
